A group of women from my church are headed south to Nicaragua this afternoon to spend a week ministering and caring for the people in the community of Ticuantepe. It is in the beautiful Los Rios valley about an hour east of the Managua airport, We will stay on an operating pineapple and coffee plantation. Our hosts and ministers in the country, Pinas de Paz, or Pineapples of Peace, will open their dorm, bathhouse, and common areas to our group for our time of ministry. We won’t be building a church or digging a well, but instead will be ministers of hope to the people in this community. Home visits with the farmers, VBS with the children at a deaf school, serving the teachers and ministers, and offering hope to hospital patients will round out our week. We are taking many supplies and will return with purchased products native to Nicaragua which will be sold to provide more funds for global missions.

I wasn’t exactly sure where this country the size of Alabama is located. Nestled between Honduras and Costa Rica, the mountains, I hear are spectacular and the birds and monkeys noisy. I imagine the 18 women I am traveling with will give the birds and monkeys a run for their money.
